Welcome to the new website of the RASQ. Megan Drennan has done a tremendous job putting the new site together. It reflects the important position the RAS holds in the development of agricultural excellence, not only across the Downs but throughout the state. It also provides the opportunity to better showcase the magnificent facilities at the Glenvale site.

Each month we will be providing updates on activities at the grounds, capital developments, exciting additions to our show plans and highlighting some of the activities of our staff and volunteers.

Plans are well underway for the 2009 show. We will be continuing with our three different nights of entertainment with a major fireworks display on Thursday night. To assist young families enjoy their show experience, we will be ensuring that the fireworks start early, so even the youngest show goers can see the entire spectacle. Friday will be Extreme Night, with Bulls, Bikes & Monster Trucks and the Royal Queensland Tattoo returns on Saturday night

Our day time entertainment focus will be enhanced with a major theatrical production centred around the lake as well as a complete revamp of activities throughout the grounds. A special horse ring located on the Village Green will allow patrons to get very close to the judging.

Although the show is our signature event, it is the all year usage that provides the society with a sound financial base. Major events coming up include both the Queensland and EFA World Cup Showjumping, and Outdoor & Adventure Expo. Ag Show - Queensland Premier Agricultural Field Days - will be held on September 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

2010 will be the 150th Anniversary of the society. To celebrate we will be constructing an Honour Wall that will carry the names of 150 people or businesses that have made a significant contribution to the society over the past 150 years. We are asking the public to nominate possible inductees by submitting a detailed resume of their contribution. For further details, contact the show office.

Volunteers are the backbone of the show movement, and the Land Army and Office Volunteers at the grounds do a tremendous job. If you have some time to spare and would like to get out of the house and enjoy some great company, then contact Elaine for a chat and see if volunteering at the showgrounds is something you may enjoy.

If you would like more information about the show or the society in general – maybe you have a great idea – just send me an email or give me a call.

Until next time,
